Raving fans are what every DJ should strive for, and the die hard passionate music enthusiasts that want to buy, listen and watch you play your music wherever you go. It has been often said you should concentrate on building 1000 raving fans, instead of aiming for 10,000 followers. And in this blog, I will suggest ways how you can build the raving DJ fans not just online, but also in person.

It is by far one of the most powerful ways online to build a close communicational bond with your fans. This allows you to stay in touch with people and update them about tickets, music and any upcoming DJ gig info. How you collect emails and build an email list is by adding value, such as giving away music, music education, merchandise and any other beneficial information.
The takeaway here is to offer something free in exchange for an email address, but it also helps to build credibility and be likeable as well before hand. People want to know they can trust you with their details, and so you should take their trust seriously.
Respond to emails and social media comments
Be a part of the conversation on social media, which is why it is called social media. Engage with all your fans and followers as much as you can; I am not saying be a slave to your fans every single minute or comment of the day but join in on the conversations when online. People want to have their say, be heard, be a part of the community and have an opinion on any topic. Listen to them, offer help and advice to let them know you’re present.
The same goes with emails, I don't know about you but from personal experience, nothing drives me crazier than DJ’s, promoters and music industry personnel that don't respond to emails. It can be discouraging when people don't reply. Sure, people are busy, but all it takes is a quick response simply letting people know that you are busy, and you will get back to them asap. If you are a DJ that travels around the world, you may have a P.R agent that does this on your behalf. Whatever your case may be in the future, try your best to respond, as people like to know you care.
Offer free entry with complimentary drinks
An ideal way to get people through the door to your DJ gigs. This has worked wonders for me at the Majik events I have worked on. I have built many close relationships with people from doing this. Sure, it has cost me money, and there is always the possibility of people taking advantage of you, so avoid making it a regular occurrence with the same people over and over. If you go out of your way for people, people will be more inclined to show mutual support. Make it a regular habit of giving away one free entry and two free drinks with every DJ gig. It can work wonders in time.
Build relationships, not just fans or followers
As it ties in with the last couple of paragraphs, people like to know you care, you listen and hear what they have to say both online and in person. If you can show that you will make people feel appreciated, and also give back to your followers with any form of contribution, you will turn the followers into fans. Not only that, but you will build an army of people that will not miss a single DJ gig or one of your DJ mixes online.
Be authentic, as nobody likes an arrogant DJ that thinks he or she is too good for their fans. You should respond to comments, emails and give plenty of value to your followers to create raving fans.
